First Win of Season for Franchitti, Honda Sweeps Podium
A special course on the streets of Vancouver, on the west coast of Canada, was the venue
for Round 10 of the CART championship. The race got underway at 1:40pm, and things
soon became rough with an accident occurring on the very first lap. Second in qualifying,
Paul Tracy skipped his pitstop on lap 35 during a full course caution to leap into the lead.
After pitting on lap 64, he handed the lead to Cristiano da Matta, but when the Brazilian was
forced to retire it was Dario Franchitti who now found himself at the front. A crash on lap 92
saw three cars strewn across the course, causing the race to be temporarily stopped. After
the restart, Dario Franchitti managed to hold on to his lead for the remaining 6 laps to clinch
his first victory of the year. With Paul Tracy and Tony Kanaan crossing the line in 2nd and
3rd places, respectively, this was Honda's first clean sweep of the podium since the 2000
season.
