Honda FCX (2003)

Seen the car of the future yet?
It certainly sounds futuristic: A car that uses no petrol and produces zero harmful emissions. But the Honda Fuel Cell Vehicle FCX,which generates electricity from two virtually unlimited sources-hydrogen and oxygen-is already on the roads in Japan and the U.S.A.*
* Currently available only through a lease program to certain governmental entities and corporations. Model shown is for the Japanese market.

Multi-meter

The FCX’s advanced multi-meter instrument panel shows all operations and energy management information in a clean, easy-to-read layout.

How does a fuel cell work?
Remember the high school science experiment in which water is divided into hydrogen and oxygen through electrolysis? To see how a fuel cell works, reverse the process. Combine hydrogen and oxygen, and the reaction will produce electricity-plus a small amount of pure water.

Does the FCX have good power?
Yes. In the FCX, hydrogen is supplied to the fuel cell stack,Å@which produces electricity that powers an electric motor. Also, braking energy is stored as electricity in Honda’s innovative Ultra Capacitor, from where it can be accessed for smooth, powerful acceleration on demand.

Meet ASIMO, Honda’s humanoid robot
Taking a bold and different approach, Honda has marched to the forefront of robotics with the world’s first two-legged robot capable of dynamic walking. Honda is designing ASIMO to play various challenging roles in our society. Extraordinary hurdles in artificial intelligence have already been overcome to expand ASIMO’s capabilities. Now ASIMO is able to recognize human gestures and postures, as well as ambient surroundings, and even has the ability to take independent action based on self-acquired information.

How do I “fuel up”?
The FCX needs only a hydrogen refill to keep running.
Eventually, hydrogen fueling stations could be as common as gas stations today.

The Power of Dreams, Honda’s global brand slogan, expresses Honda’s ambition to realize and inspire extraordinary dreams through innovations like ASIMO and the FCX.
