Honda's Variable Cylinder Management for gasoline engine automobiles enhances fuel economy
To develop gasoline engine automobiles that offer both high-level environmental and driving performance, Honda has taken a wide variety of approaches to enhancing engine efficiency. A new and important technology in Honda's next-generation engines, Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) switches between six-, four- and three-cylinder combustion depending on the driving conditions. It chooses the most efficient level of engine displacement to enhance fuel economy while maintaining power and a high level of driving performance. VCM leverages the power of Honda’s proprietary VTEC system and many other advanced Honda technologies.
First implementing VCM in December 2007 on the Inspire, Honda has since featured the technology on the Accord Crosstour, hybrid vehicles and other automobiles.
