In FY2008 Honda produced 7,880,000 units at its five manufacturing
facilities in Japan. After assessing the environmental impact
of its operations, and in accordance with the 2006 announcement
of its global CO2-reduction targets for 2010, in 2007 Honda announced its environmental impact reduction tarets for FY2011 for Japan. Striving to achieve its worldwide environmental conservation goals, Honda is taking the initiative and working even more proactively.
On April 14, 2008, production began at a new motorcycle plant
in Kumamoto, Japan. Inspired by a “light, air and wind” theme and
featuring Honda’s most advanced, high-efficiency manufacturing
technology, the plant is designed to be people-friendly and environmentally
responsible, and to fulfill the role of leader factory for
Honda motorcycle production worldwide. Furthermore, in view of
the fact that the plant is located near the foot of scenic Mt. Aso,
Honda has implemented further measures to reduce the impact of
its operations on the environment and enhance the working environment.
Installing a solar power system and making use of natural
sunlight have reduced CO2 output by 20% and made the new
facility a true Green Factory.
