Since the release of its first outboard engine, the GB30, in 1964, Honda
has committed itself to the development and production of
environmentally-responsible 4-stroke outboard engines. Honda’s founder,
Soichiro Honda, strongly believed that discharging oil into the water
was bad for everyone ? the water itself, the fish that lived in the
water, and the rice which grew in the water ? and took on the long-term
challenge of overcoming the difficulties of size, weight and lubrication
inherent in the development of a 4-stroke outboard engine. Following in
Mr. Honda’s footsteps, Honda Marine today remains the leader in
environmentally-responsible four-stroke outboard engine technology.
In 1971, Honda added the 45 TWIN and 75 TWIN to its lineup, and by
1998 offered a full complement of outboard engines and offered the
industry’s first full line of four-stroke outboards ? long before other
outboard manufacturers realized the advantages of the clean, reliable
power plants and followed suit.
Today, Honda Marine engineers work to ensure that every Honda
outboard model ? ranging from 2 to 225 horsepower ? sets the standard
for fuel efficiency and ease of operation while staying true to the core
Honda attributes of durability, quality, reliability and quiet
operation. Additionally, Honda Marine’s full line of current production
models meets rigorous California Air Resources Board (CARB) 3-Star
standards, ensuring their availability and regulatory compliance in all
50 states.
