Honda Releases New Compact, Lightweight Inverter-Equipped EU16i Generator

Tokyo, February 22, 2001 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today announced the release of the EU16i, a new Honda-developed sine wave inverter-equipped generator that is the lightest in its class. The EU16i will go on sale on March 5, 2001 at Honda Power Products dealers nationwide. It is slated for additional release in North America and Europe starting in April.

Featuring weight just half that of conventional generators in the same output class¹ and sized for easy portability, the EU16i is the first generator of its kind in the world capable of powering general household electrical appliances² of nearly every type. It also uses a highly efficient Honda-developed sine wave inverter system to deliver electricity that is of such high quality it can be used with assurance to power even computers and other sensitive equipment.

The EU16i is powered by Honda's new GX100 engine, which features a unique side-cam OHC layout that achieves high reliability, long-lasting durability, light weight and compactness while also ensuring clearance of the world's strictest environmental regulations, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Phase 2 emissions regulations. The EU16i also features a two-tier soundproofing system and an "Eco-Throttle" that automatically adjusts engine speed to match the electrical load, reducing operating noise to just 59dB(A)³ and improving fuel economy by at least 20% compared to similarly classed models.

High Quality Electrical Output

	A highly efficient Honda-developed inverter system ensures "clean" electricity of a quality on par with that available from commercial sources, making the EU16i an ideal for powering computers and other types of equipment sensitive to frequency and voltage fluctuations.
	Able to power almost any type of general household appliance that normally uses standard 15-amp electrical outlets.

Lightweight & Compact

	Approximately 30% smaller than Honda's similarly classed conventional model, the EM1500X.
	The use of a special Honda-designed multi-pole inverter unit reduces the engine's generator system weight by approximately 1/3 (compared to the similarly classed EM1500X), contributing to reducing the overall weight to just 21 kilograms, or roughly half that of similarly classed generators.

Low Operating Noise

Two-layer soundproofing design and engine speed-reducing Eco-Throttle combine to contribute to significantly quieter operation.

Low Fuel Consumption

Honda's high-efficiency inverter technology and Eco-Throttle system allow engine speed to be adjusted automatically for an optimum match with the electrical load being placed on the generator at any given time, resulting in at least 20% better fuel efficiency than conventional generators.

Parallel Operation Capability

Parallel operation capability allows two EU16i's to be linked using a special connection cable to deliver nearly twice the power output of a single unit.
