Significant growth in Asian markets leads to localizing R&D and expanding production capacity.

Asian motorcycle market set for continued growth
The primary vehicle for everyday transportation in Asia, the motorcycle is propelling sales growth in the region. Honda began motorcycle production in Asia, in Taiwan, in 1962, and expanded its motorcycle production capacity by establishing one plant after another in what has become 10 Asian nations. By 2007, cumulative output of motorcycles reached 20 million units in both India and Indonesia and
15 million in Thailand. Honda has a high local procurement rate for motorcycles throughout the Asia/Oceania region, especially in India, and approaches 100% local content with most models. Honda is also progressing in its plans to increase the range of motorcycles equipped with Honda's programmed fuel injection system (PGM-FI). In fact, PGM-FI will be featured in all Thailand models by the end of 2009. Helping to lessen environmental impact throughout the region, the newly developed engine in Honda's new Wave 110i supports a 20% ethanol fuel mixture while offering high fuel efficiency and power.
Cumulative power products output in Thailand reaches 10 million units
Honda's brand power in the motorcycle market is the basis for strong performance in Asia's continuously expanding automobile markets. Honda started manufacturing cars in Malaysia and Taiwan in 1969, and now manufactures in eight Asian countries. Honda is also a leading manufacturer of environmental technology. For example, the highly advanced engine in Honda's new City features impressive fuel economy and emissions, as well as excellent power. First launched in Thailand, this model was then introduced in other Asian nations. In power products business, Honda began local manufacturing of general-purpose engines in Thailand in 1987 and is now operating pump and lawnmower manufacturing facilities there, as well. Thailand's cumulative output of power products reached 10 million units in 2007. In order to offer products that are even better attuned to the needs of Asian customers, Honda is accelerating measures to strengthen its business foundation throughout Asia/Oceania.
