| Winning the top share in motorcycle sales in many European countries |
| In the 1950s, Honda first exported its motorcycles to Europe. In 1961, Honda became the first Japanese motorcycle manufacturer in Europe to establish a local subsidiary, and in the same year, Honda won victories in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy races, sweeping 1st through 5th places in the 125cc and 250cc classes. In 1963, Honda opened a motorcycle manufacturing plant in Belgium, the first such facility outside of Japan for the company, followed in 1976 by a motorcycle plant in Italy. Now, Honda motorcycles are popular for their dynamic performance, ease of riding, and environmental performance, earning the top market share in many European countries. In fact, Honda earned top sales in eight of ten Western European countries in 2008. Honda continues to expand its product lineup in its determination to increase customer satisfaction in Europe. |

| Developing products attuned to European needs |
| Aiming to further expand business in Europe, Honda is promoting product development that meets regional needs by establishing a broad-based local network of company facilities and R&D operations. For example, Honda has been expanding its lineup of diesel engine vehicles in Europe, where there has traditionally been higher demand. A diesel version of the Accord released in 2008 features Honda's i-DTEC diesel engine, which is designed to meet EU environmental performance standards for emission control (Euro 5) and now features even cleaner emissions. In power products business, Honda will further expand its sales network for lawnmowers and power generators, which are highly acclaimed for their operational ease and environmental performance. Thus, Honda will maintain the Honda brand identity as it continues to gain strength in the intensely competitive European market. |
